I started learning how to capture the human face on a toned paper from Nathan Fowkes. I bought his portrait book, and I highly recommend it. He goes on to explain the face, not really getting into the anatomy, but the structure with the help of shapes. Light and value are the biggest lessons he tries to teach. He stresses though, that practice is the secret ingredient!
